Case Study: Accessible and Functional E-Bike for College Students
Problem: Traditional bicycles often lack the storage and accessibility needed for diverse
users, especially college students with heavy daily cargo.
Solution: An e-bike tailored for college campus life, offering:
Aesthetic design with unique lights for style and safety.
Rechargeable battery for speed boosts.
Retractable front and rear baskets for flexible storage.
Large pedals for comfort and ease of use.
This e-bike provides a fast, practical, and stylish way for students to navigate campus
without being weighed down.
Field research:
College student (lives 5 minutes off campus and 20 minutes or more from stores) 20yrs old: Wants a drink apparatus, a large comfortable seat, a battery boost, easier riding and large storage areas.
College student on CO-OP (lives a 7 minute drive from job and stores) 21 yrs old. wants a long lasting battery for a boosted/faster ride and a big amount of storage for bags and groceries.
Fashion designer in New York City (lives very close to stores but has limited storage) 23yrs old: Wants something she can store in small places, easy to ride, has a big seat and A LOT of storage.

This feature is a standout element of this bike, specifically designed to accommodate commuters carrying heavy cargo. Its compact folding capability makes it easy to store in small spaces, offering both practicality and convenience for everyday use.
Battery
This bike features a lightweight lithium-ion battery system, offering a 20-mile (32 km) range on a single charge. Weighing just 6-8 pounds, it balances portability and performance. The 500Wh battery powers a 250-watt load for up to 2 hours. A side button allows easy access for removal, charging, or replacement.
Leather seat
This seat is crafted with patent leather for a sleek and comfortable look.
Front basket and break system
Front basket
This front basket features openings along its edges, making it ideal for securing items with bungee cords or carrying smaller belongings for everyday use.
Breaks
This bike features a lightweight, easy-to-maintain V-brake system, ideal for city or casual bikes. More economical than disc brakes, V-brakes offer flexibility, compatibility, and easy access to replacement parts for hassle-free repairs.
Bike spokes
I chose a 2 cross stainless steal bike spoke pattern because it is a sturdy option and is perfect for a casual commuter bike.

This bike will be made of carbon and steel, for a sturdy body and long lasting lifespan.
